‘Gomez’ unveils new OM player, joins free agent team

England midfielder Angel Gomes has officially joined Olympique de Marseille after leaving Lille in the French Ligue 1.

Marseille, who are currently coached by Roberto De Zerbi, have agreed terms in advance with Gomes. After announcing in May that he would not extend his contract with Lille,

the 24-year-old midfielder has won four senior caps for England under caretaker boss Lee Carsley. But has yet to make a senior debut under Thomas Tuchel.

Gomes earned his first four senior caps for England under interim manager Lee Carsley last year, but has yet to feature under current boss Thomas Tuchel.

The midfielder began his career at Manchester United but left in 2020 having made just 10 appearances in all competitions. After making his debut as a 16-year-old in 2017.

He spent the past four seasons in Ligue 1, after initially being loaned to Boavista in Portugal, scoring 10 goals and providing 19 assists in 134 appearances for Lille.

move to Marseille sees Gomes, who is reportedly signed until 2028. Reunite with former United team-mate Mason Greenwood, as Marseille finished second in Ligue 1 last season and will play in the Champions League next season.
