Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has been named MLS Most Valuable Player for the season.

The Argentine captain helped Inter to a record-breaking regular season. But they were eliminated in the playoffs in November. The

37-year-old has been directly involved in a league-leading 36 goals. Including 20 goals and 16 assists.

He picked up the award despite injuries limiting him to just 19 regular-season games and two playoff games.

“It’s truly an honor to receive this award with all of you,” said Messi in a video published by Inter Miami showing him speaking to the team’s academy players. “Watching you train fills me with pride.
